6 Spooky and Fun Ideas for Celebrating Halloween!

6 Spooky and Fun Ideas for Celebrating Halloween!

Halloween 2020 is going to be different than what we are used to, but that doesn’t mean it can't be fun! This year, Halloween falls on a Saturday, which means we get to celebrate a whole day with candy, costumes, movies, and more!

In this blog post, we go through 6 fun activities, which we hope will inspire you to have a spooky and fun Halloween.

  1. Decorate your home

Decorating the house is always a fun family activity, no matter the holiday or occasion. You can set up fake spider webs, skulls, ghosts, or other scary decorations around the house to get your kids in the Halloween spirit. Our favourite decorations are pumpkin candles that give your home the perfect Halloween feel.

Pro tip: listen to some Halloween tunes while decorating to make the activity even more fun!

  1. Put on a costume

Dressing in creative costumes is fun at any time of the year. Even if you are not planning to go to a Halloween party or go trick-or-treating, the kids will have fun pretending to be their favourite characters.

  1. Carve a pumpkin

One of the most memorable pastimes of Halloween is pumpkin carving. When you think of Halloween, you probably think of pumpkins. So, get the carving equipment/decoration sets out and create your own scary pumpkin. You can even make it a family competition and judge who has the best design!

Don't want to carve the pumpkin? No problem, you can just paint it instead! This is a great (and safe) option for young children who are not yet able to use carving tools.

  1. Bake some scary goodies

Even if you are not planning to go to a Halloween party or go out at all, you can still satisfy your sweet tooth by making your own sweet treats with a spooky theme. Bake some ghostly cakes or spider muffins to share with your family. For inspiration, check out "fun popcorn recipes for kids to cook as a family!"

  1. Treasure hunt in a dark garden

Decorate the garden and wait until dark. When the time comes, let the children go out into the garden to look for a hidden treasure. Give children a flashlight that can help them see better. You may also want to equip them with an Xplora smartwatch—you can then easily keep track of where the children are using the watch's built-in GPS function. If the child leaves the pre-selected safe zone you set up in the parent app, you will be notified. Read more about X4 here.

  1. Share scary stories

There is no better way to get into the Halloween spirit than to tell or hear a good scary story. Sit around a fire or use a flashlight to add that extra effect.

For many, this time of year may seem mentally heavy, but it is easy to liven up everyday life with a variety of small activities. We all wish you a fun and safe Halloween!
